I don’t think that my political slant will come as a surprise to anyone who knows me. You might also know that Molly and I don’t have TV in the house. No cable, no dish…nothing. We get our news from magazines, newspapers and the Internet.
I do indulge myself by watching Keith Olberman’s Countdown shown on MSNBC as well as Rachell Maddow’s show and the hilarious Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. I watch these shows via the net a day or two after they air live.
Not long ago, Keith Olberman started using Twitter. Today he has over 62,000 followers. Each night he highlights a tweet or two that he received from one of his followers.
I have a twitter account (@SPEEDmktg) but I don’t tweet. I don’t have a legitimate need and it has always seemed a bit silly to me. This past Friday Keith Olberman did a segment on Rand Paul highlighting recent statements he made regarding the oil spill in the gulf. In case you don’t know, Rand Paul is the son of Ron Paul. Rand just won the Republican party’s primary race for Senate in Kentucky. Rand is a HUGE TEABAGGER. Just last week he suggested that the federal government shouldn’t have the power to force restaurants (or any “independent” businesses) to serve minorities under the 1964 Civil Rights Act. He didn’t limit his restrictions to race…a business owner should be able to discriminate for any reason they want - religious affiliation, gender, sexual preference, party affiliation, etc. Yeah…I know…hard to imagine.
In his latest interview, Rand criticized the adminstration for “putting the bootheal on the throat of BP” in the oil spill disaster in the gulf. This prompted me to dig out my Twitter login info and send a quick tweet – my first legitimate tweet. It was the featured tweet on Olbermans show on Monday night. While it is certainly not Shakespeare – what do you expect with a 140 character maximum – I must confess that being highlighted on the show was certainly worth a few whoops around the house. And now Molly gets to finally be with a National Celebrity….she is so pleased.
Here’s a short clip from the first segment on Friday:

Here’s Monday’s segment and my 16 seconds of fame…I’m still owed 14min and 44 seconds!
